It had been a long day of doing magic 'tricks' for scraps for Parin d'Aulaire. She'd been unable to get a job for longer than a week, unable to find the thief who'd tarnished her reputation with the villagers and Malachy the Half-Elven had disappeared after only a few short days. Life was hard and if it weren't for the roof she still had over her head Parin might have given up hope by now. Still there were a few places in town she had yet to try.
She'd put on her best tunic - one she'd gotten from a passing rag man and had patched up to look decent- and walked across town to the local Tavern.
She walked in with a air of one who has fended for herself for too long to really care what people thought anymore. She went up to the bartender and asked in her sweet voice;
"Please sir, May I have a job here? I can sweep floors, put things away and pour drinks. I also have some skills in magic." Parin knew better than to reveal that pouring a sweeping were the skills she was talking about. In the evenings when she'd gone back the apartment she'd practiced and gotten better at pouring and sweeping - it took far less effort now than it had previously. She still couldn't do both at the same time, she'd learned a neat trick of pouring water into two flagons at once.
She looked at the Bartender with her wide soft eyes and waited for him to speak. The rough speech of Avaren would never be the music to her ears that her own polished manners were but right now even a bartenders welcome would sound marvelous.
