Normal Appearance[/b]
Shadow is a tall man, about six foot five, and his lithe body oft shows from beneath his reinforced leather jerkin. He has a pair of leather boots that are light enough to effectively be utilized offensively, yet heavy enough to keep his feet warm in snowy conditions. His pants are usually slightly baggy, and the ornate belt of unknown origin that holds everything together houses his knife Cordia. His eyes are dark red, and most people see them as brown until they get close to him. They occasionally change shades, and the irises sometimes change shape to a point that they look reptilian... His black hair is always down, and it touches his shoulders. When on an adventure, he tries to tie it back with a strip of bloodred cloth.

-Not that anyone would see this, but Shadow has a tattoo on the back of his left shoulder. it is a Butterfly, brightly colored and not something he's proud of. It is the reason he No longer drinks alcohol other than the occasional glass of wine.

Weapons[/b]
He may seem under-armed for someone of his lifestyle, but that's because the majority of his weapons are concealed. Two throwing knives in each boot and on each shoulder and two gauntlets that each conceals a retractable blade usually accompany Cordia.

If he has time to prepare for an excursion, he usually brings along a few extra items. The most popular of these items are:
-More throwing knives and extra belts and sashes that conceal them
-His "specialty packets". Small brown paper packages that can easily be palmed; a few results of his dabbling in Alchemy. Two distinct types
~~Booms: a small packet that, when thrown on the ground or lit on fire, explode violently with sound and light. Does not do irreversible damage, just blinds and dazes whoever looks at it or is close enough to get their ears assaulted. (Usually brings three)
~~Fire: a small packet that when ripped open produces a relatively controllable flame. (Only brings one)

Magical Abilities:[/b]
Transformation- a complete transformation from human into creature of choice. The transformation takes only a few minutes of concentration, but a for a few moments, Shadow has to get used to the new senses. The common markings of Shadow when transformed are two crescent shaped marks on his left ear. If the creature that he transforms into does not have ears, then the marking is under the left eye, on the cheek.
(Aspiring) Creatures of choice: Dragon, Tiger, and Hawk
-Shadow has not currently studied enough to achieve this full transformation, and with the destruction of Aesir, he has not been able to find someone who can help him.

Commonly used is the partial transformation, where Shadow changes only partially. For instance, he may transform his hand to a scaled and clawed appendage, or transform his eyes and optical systems to be able to see in adverse conditions (heat vision, low light vision)
~ Vulnerability to exhaustion after de-trans, depending on how and what he changed, and how much it was used.

Along with the partial transformations, Shadow has a bunch of magic spells at his disposal.
-He can use magic to launch an object at a high velocity, and he can use magic to control an object’s flight path and trajectory.
-He can use magic to heighten his senses slightly, (only one at a time, or his brain would go into shock and he’d die) he can utilize a bit of mesmerization to control weak minded or unaware beings.
-He can conjure fire. (The largest flame he can conjure without help of his fire packet or without Chao is only enough to light a small campfire, which is what he uses it for)
-He can fire small disks of energy from his hands. (Much like Chi, except this is magical energy and not spiritual energy.) it only takes a moment of concentration for him to form them, so it is an effective means of attack. ~ he can also use this magical energy to form a shield the size of a light buckler.
-He uses various other magical spells, generic ones that help make everyday life that much easier

Magical throwing knife
A throwing knife with 100% accuracy that always returns once thrown. Supposing the person it is thrown at makes no effort to dodge, then the dagger will hit them, thus the knife's trajectory is unaffected by outside forces, such as wind. Limited distance, yet it can be extended by a magical push.





Tattered Cape
It's a black cape, travel worn and old. (in appearance)
A curious item, for when Shadow wraps it around him, it magically shrouds him so that anyone looking at him would find their gaze distracted, and they would find it hard to focus on Shadow. it is made of canvas and infused with magics to help Shadow Blend with his environment and live up to his namesake

This cape offers no protection to Shadow's body when versus steel, other than an extra layer of canvas outside his armor. It can dissapate small projectiles of energy or magic, and can lessen the impact of large amounts of magic.

It is waterproof and inflammable, heatproof, and can be coated in flames for effect. (the way that works is that a small amount of oil or other flammable liquid would be traced along the cape in a pattern, then lit on fire. the fire would consume the fuel, racing along the pattern as it did so. Only works for a short amount of time unless the flame is magical.)

Chao

LOOKS:
He can almost be described as lion-like in appearance, but the vibrantly gold-orange creature is far from feline. The similarities end at the head. Chao has a very canine face, his nose, mouth and eyes resembling that of a wolf or fox. His eyes are usually gold. I say usually because they turn red-orange when he is angry or on the offensive. Chao is four feet tall at the shoulder, and with his tail he is a little over nine feet in length. His whiskers are three feet long, and flow like being blown in a gentle breeze, even if there is no wind. The muscular body and sharp claws can attest to the fact that he doesn't need to rely on Shadow or magic for protection.
His reddish-orange mane runs from the crest of his forehead, down his spine to the tip of his tail, and ignites when he is angry or trying to intimidate.



Abilities:

Flame control
Can control fire to an extent, by directing its path and changing the intensity and flame height, unless someone is already controlling them.

Fire breath
Can breathe fire at a max temperature equivalent to that of a stream of lava, but to reach this intense heat Chao must be able to charge himself. While charging himself, Chao cannot move. once in a charged state, Chao's body radiates intense heat, heat that can even cause discomfort to shadow when he's wearing his magical cape. when like this, Chao's agility and strength are raised, but his accuracy diminishes because of this.
-If Chao touches something when Charged, it will either ignite, combust, or begin to blacken and melt, depending on the strength of the material.
Anything organic will catch fire almost instantly. Steel begins to melt, and if he stands on stone, the stone becomes charred and will eventually start to crack.
~Charged attacks are rapidly released balls of flame equal to the intensity of hot lava.
~Chao can only hold a charge for about half an hour. When he comes down off of a charge, his energy is depleted to a point of near exhaustion, and he uses his last amount of energy to phase himself home to regenerate.

Phase
A simple teleportation. He can teleport objects and can extend the teleportation to up to three people, so long as they are touching him in some way.

Cloak
can become invisible. however, still gives off a heat signature, and when he moves, his outline shimmers a bit, so if someone watches carefully, they would easily be able to pick up on it.

Other things:
Shadow can ride on Chao.
Chao can Shrink to a size where he is the size of a fox and rides on shadow's shoulders occasionally. Cannot grow bigger than his un-altered height.

The story of how Shadow Found Redemption.
Literally.

As a 22 year old man, Shadow was inflicted with a heavy feeling of Wanderlust. His travels took him across the globe, and occasionally into it. During the third year of his travels, he met up with a young boy who intrigued him greatly. The young boy was full of unknown potential and power, and Shadow, who could see this kind of thing, decided to take the orphaned and lost boy under his wing. (with a little motivation from Chao)

He found the boy at the age of 7, and for such a young age, the child had already seen and experienced more hardship than most people would have in a lifetime. no sooner than when the boy tried to pick Shadow's pocket did Shadow sense that there was something special about him. it was probably the pendant the young boy wore around his neck, the broken pendant that even over the years, has never come off.

Stranger still was the boy's name; Redemption. Shadow got the chills when he read the letter that was supposedly left by the boy's parents. He immediately decided upon giving the boy a nickname, and settled on Redem. Shadow didn't like to think about the word redemption. He still doesn't.

the letter also came with some strange items. Weapons, to be exact, hidden in a corner of the boy's hideout. There was a sword and a Dagger, both ornately made of dark, blood red material and etched with darker black runes. they, unlike anything else in the hideout, were clean as if the boy personally cleaned them every day, or as if they magically stayed clean. the note had been attached to them, and on it was a request to keep the weapons from the child unitll he was physically and mentally fit to use them.

Shadow told the kid that he might return some day, and to keep out of trouble until then, and left with Chao. a month later, they came back and Chao brought Redem to Shadow's hideout. There, Shadow set upon teaching the boy many of the finer tricks of the trade. Shadow also drilled into Redem with one constant lesson; that of the noble thief, stealing from the corrupt and helping those who work hard to earn their money.

over time, Redem began to mature, and though ten years have passed, he is nowhere near finishing what he now calls his apprenticeship. Just a year ago, on Redem's sixteenth birthday, Shadow gave him the ornate and powerful weapons.

The boy almost killed himself within five minutes.
it's not that Redem had no swordsmanship, for that was the one thing that he picked up almost immediately.
no, it was the swords themselves. they seemed to... bond with his pendant, and Redem's body reacted violently at first.

Shadow spent three weeks allowing the boy's body to heal itself. over the long year that has passed, Shadow has Redem meditate with him daily, Redem holding his "Destined weapons" (the nickname Shadow teasingly uses for them) on his lap. only recently has he been able to actually belt them on and walk around with them.

To this day, the boy's training continues, as vigorous as ever.
