Name: Seth Roshan
Age: ???
Apparent Age: 21-25
Height: 6'3"
Origin: Itzal, Land of Shadows
Lineage: Shadowmancers
Occupation: Necromancer
Powers:
- shadow/darkness manipulation
- living shadow in the form of a black lion (Leos)
- necromancy
Weaknesses:
- light sensitive eyes
- the living shadow can be harmed in a fight, in this case any harm done to the shadow affects the user as well
- necromancy is slowly causing his body to deteriorate
Appearance:
Seth is built well physically. His body is thin and lean, but strong and toned and his face is smooth, long, and narrow. Despite his healthy physique, his skin is deathly pale and dark shadows hang under his eyes giving him a sickly air. His eyes are deep red and may have been brown at one time. His long hair falls over the right half of his face (left if you are looking at him) and reaches to about his waistline. It is black and hangs almost lifelessly with no curls or wave; except for the portion that hangs in his face which is bleach white. It is looks as if the very life has been drained from it.
For clothing, he wears a black toga-like outfit that sweeps low across his front, leaving the left half(right if face-to-face with him) of his chest and his entire left arm bare. The lower portion extends to his ankles like a skirt or Egyptian robes. Black pants and boots are visible below the fabric line. Seth wears a purple sash around his waist and the tassled ends hang down to about midway down the robe. A long, black, sleeve-like attachment fastened to the toga at the shoulder with a gold chain and brooch covers his right arm and a black glove covers his hand.
History:
Seth was born in the land of Itzal. Itzal was once a strong and powerful nation, thriving on the will of its people and the trade of others. Its people were known as Shadowmancers because of their inherited ability to control the shadows around them. No Itzalan had a shadow of his or her own. All the shadows of the people were sentient, living and speaking creatures bound to their human counterparts. These people and shadows formed a symbiotic relationship, working together every day of their lives. In Itzal, a shadow was man’s best friend, but more than that, it was an extension of one’s self. Itzalan’s could no more survive without a shadow than they could without their hearts or souls. Any injury taken on by one’s shadow was also taken on to one’s self. They were one, and they were happy.
Then came the day when a dark and mysterious stranger would happen upon their lands and frown upon their simple spears and swords, while wondering all the while at the great shadow beasts that walked beside them. The stranger spoke with woven words of silver, and talked of magic and wonders even greater than the shadows. Competition within the realms of shadow was fierce and the promise of greater powers drew many right into the arms of the stranger. Little did Itzala know that this traveler was the same dark sorcerer that had been creating Aesirs since the beginnings of written history.
It would not be long before Itzal was destroyed, torn from within by civil war and strife. Many had left to join the sorcerer to learn his dark magic and to recreate the great city of the magi. Itzalan warriors and shadows tore each other apart and fell creatures preyed upon the rest as necromancy ran rampant. Itzalans proved to be adept necromancers, perhaps due to their close link with the dark and with each battle the number of dead increased, and, as a result, the number of undead foes. Soon all were dead and there was naught left but bones and corpses, carrion for the scavengers. The sorcerer simply shook his head at his newest failure and moved on.
Seth Roshan was born of the royal line of Itzal. His shadow companion was the great king of beasts, a huge shadow-maned lion who went by the name of Leos. Seth was the elder of two brothers in line for the throne. Foreseeing the approaching civil war, he made the decision to leave the kingdom and join with the newly formed kingdom of Aesir. The elder brother had determined that the sorcerer had no intention of staying forever to lead the new people and when he left, they would need direction. The people of Aesir were still the people of Itzal and, therefore, his responsibility. The younger brother did not see things that way and felt betrayed by his brother’s decision. Seth had anticipated this as well; his brother’s righteous air made him the perfect successor to the throne of Itzal and Seth had already made Aesir’s future his mission.
And deep down, Seth had to admit that the science and mysteries of the nature of necromancy appealed to his inquisitive mind. The fact that his shadow counterpart was a great cat granted him natural talent with necromantic magic, for long have cats been the guardians to the underworld. Seth drifted further from his family and deeper into the dark arts.
And so it was that when the two kingdoms clashed and destroyed one another, Seth stood upon the battlefield littered with corpses, alone but for his badly wounded brother. Their father had long since been killed, back when the wars began and now only these two remained. Aesir’s population had been decimated, but for a few mages and necromancers that had fled from battle. Itzal, on the other hand, had lost all of its warriors but managed to save its common people. Only Seth’s brother knew where the lost population was hidden and he would not speak a word. Seth knew it was over and simply disappeared, leaving his brother to rebuild.
Itzal was destroyed, but its people lived on. They rebuilt and returned to their simple way of life under their kind and generous king. Life was not easy, but the wars had ended. Eventually they disappeared from the rest of the world, whether they died out or simply went into hiding is unknown. It is, however, known that the mages that had fled were granted with unnaturally long life spans and gained power as they continued to practice their dark arts. Perhaps they killed their kinsmen, or perhaps they were the reason for the Itzalans to go into hiding. No one knows.
This took place long before and far from Avaren and the newest Aesir. But word travels far and fast and soon reached the ears of a lone survivor, accompanied by a lion black as night and now completely corrupted by necromancy. The next day, he set out for Avaren.
